Study Recommends Downtown as Site for New Richmond Coliseum/Arena
The Coliseum Study consultants issued recommendations for the site of a new arena of 14,000 to 15,000 seats to be constructed downtown between 8th and 10th Streets, next to the existing Richmond Coliseum site. Two city of Richmond hotels receive coveted AAA awards
In a January 27, 2011 article in the Richmond Times Dispatch by John Reid Blackwell, two hotel located in the city received the coveted AAA rating of four- or five- diamonds. Less than 4 percent of the properties evaluated by AAA inspectors receive the four- or five- diamond awards. The Berkeley Hotel received a four-diamond rating for the 22nd year and The Jefferson Hotel received the five-diamond award for the 18th consecutive year, the only hotel in Virginia to receive this award. "We want to be part of the resurgence occurring downtown"
Reported by Al Harris in the January 17th, 2011 edition of Richmond BizSense, one of Rchmond's oldest skyscrapers is about to get the apartment-conversion treatment. Local development firm Hunt Investments LLC and the Virginia Beach-based Armada Hoffler together purchased the building at 700 E Franklin Street for $7.2 million. The historic building is planned to be converted into 115 units of studios and one- and two- bedroom apartments. Tony Nero, president of Armada Hoffler said his firm hopes to pursue more projects in the Richmond area. Fast-Growing Firm Expands at Biotech Park in City of Richmond
Health Diagnostic Laboratory, Inc. celebrated the opening of its expanded office and laboratory space within Virginia BioTechnology Park in the City of Richmond on Wednesday, January 19th. Richmond Ranked 7th Best City for Business
According to the Wall Street Journal's online magazine Marketwatch, Richmond ranked seventh in this year's review of the best cities in the country for business. Marketwatch states, "Richmond boasts the best of both worlds; it's about an hur and a half to metro Washington by car, yet it's a lower-cost, relatively smaller city."
