City Completes Bond Sale and Obtains Lower Rates
On June 14, 2012, the city of Richmond sold $248.2 million in bonds and refinanced $146.9 million of existing bonds at significantly lowers interest rates. "These lower-than-expected rates are a benefit of the City's strong credit rating, even at a time when many local governments are struggling to maintain their existing credit ratings. McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center Evolves to Meet Patient Needs
A May 15, 2012 Richmond Times Dispatch article features the significant programs that McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located in the city of Richmond, offers to veterans, particularly in the field of neurological conditions.
McGuire, as a regional referral center for veterans on the East Coast, provides care to approximately 46,000 patients in one year, of which those patients make more than 469,000 outpatient visits.

New Law Expands Opportunities for Craft Breweries
On May 15, 2012, Governor Bob McDonnell signed legislation at the city of Richmond's newest brewery, Hardywood Park Brewery, allowing craft breweries to sell their beer for consumption on site.
Eric Mackay, co-founder of Hardywood Park Brewery stated that, "SB 604 will, without question, create a substantial number of hospitality and manufacturing jobs, generate significantly greater sales tax revenues, increase tourism, attract new and expanding craft breweries to Virginia, support local agriculture, and enhance Virginia's food and beverage culture."
