Richmond Named a Top Ten Location for Independent Moviemakers

Movie Maker Magazine recently recognized Richmond as one of the "Top 10 cities to be an independent moviemaker" in its January issue. Notes local writer/director Joey Tran (Singularium), "Not only is there a large number of really skilled people who are more than happy to contribute to the creative side, but even non-filmakers are willing to help out with locations, like houses or other kinds of property." Another Downtown Skyscraper to be Converted

In a Richmond BizSense article dated January, 23, 2012, one of Richmond's oldest skyscrapers will be converted in 154 apartments. The neoclassical First National Bank building at 823 E. Main Street and its neighboring building at 825 E. Main will be converted as part of a $30 million project in downtown Richmond. To read more about this project, please click here.

Southwest Landing in Richmond

The Richmond Times Dispatch reported on January 20th that Southwest Airlines will be coming to Richmond International Airport. Troy Bell, RIC's director of marketing and air service development stated, "Southwest is really a game-changer. The John Marshall Hotel Restored

City Receives $600,000 Revitalization Grant for Leigh Street Armory

On Tuesday, December 28, 2011, Governor Bob McDonnell announced that the City of Richmond has been awarded a $600,000 Industrial Revitalization Fund (IRF) grant towards the redevelopment of the Leigh Street Armory, located at 122 West Leigh Street in historic Jackson Ward.

Mayor Dwight C. Jones thanked Governor McDonnell and stated, "Restoration of this property will further advance the City's revitalization of Jackson Ward, which occupies a vital place in the social and economic history of African Americans. It will also enhance Richmond's ongoing efforts to expand tourism while developing our city's cultural offerings. Additionally, it will help give meaningful use to an architectural icon."
