Mayor Announces Leigh Street As Site for Redskins Summer Training Camp

On Monday, October 22, Mayor Dwight C. Jones announced the City's plan to develop the Leigh Street (Science Museum) site as the new home of the Washington Redskins Summer Training Camp, beginning in 2013. In making the announcement, the Mayor also disclosed that Bon Secours Richmond Health System (BSRHS) and the City have formulated a comprehensive strategy to stimulate new economic development and jobs throughout the city.

Construction firm relocates to former city-owned property

Richmond BizSense reports about the new tenant occupying the restored 100-year-old Manchester Post Office along Hull Street in Manchester. The construction management firm Barton Marlow has leased space in the building to grow and expand its operations. Kevin McMichael, senior project manager, said, "We knew where we wanted to be, and we knew where we didn't want to be. Increased Interest In Cycling a Boost to Local Bike Industry

According to a September 9, 2012 Richmond Times Dispatch article, the area's retail cycling industry anticipates being among the likely beneficiaries of the UCI World Cycling Championships coming to the city of Richmond in 2015.

"I don't think people realize how big this is, " said Tim Mullins, co-owner of Carytown Bicycle Co. in Richmond. "I still can't believe it's coming here."

Construction Begins on New VCU Children's Hospital

On Monday, September 9, 2012, the Children's Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University  broke ground on a new Children's Pavilion that will be the largest and most advanced outpatient facility dedicated to children in the region.

The $168 million, 640,000-square-foot facility located in the heart of downtown Richmond will house 72 exam rooms; a surgical area with two operating rooms, and two procedure rooms; areas for diagnostic testing and imaging; and laboratory services.

Port of Richmond Receives Significant Technology Upgrade

Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation and the global technology standard for managing the movement of cargo through terminals, today announced the Port of Richmond went live with Navis SPARCS N4, mkaing it the second marine terminal in North American to go live with the industry's most advanced terminal operating system (TOS).

Bill Walsh, president and CEO of Navis, LLC stated, "From our long-standing relationship with Port of Virginia-owned sites, we are confident that SPARCS N4 will help Richmond Marine Terminal achieve the operational efficiency they are striving for. As larger ships come into play, terminals will be required to improve their productivity and customer service. City Completes Bond Sale and Obtains Lower Rates

On June 14, 2012, the city of Richmond sold $248.2 million in bonds and refinanced $146.9 million of existing bonds at significantly lowers interest rates. "These lower-than-expected rates are a benefit of the City's strong credit rating, even at a time when many local governments are struggling to maintain their existing credit ratings.
